Attribution

Coupon attribution

Attribution that gives partner credit when a buyer uses a partner-specific coupon code.

Definition

Coupon attribution connects a conversion to an affiliate through a unique promotion code instead of or in addition to a tracking link. It can capture offline, podcast, newsletter and community referrals.

B2B SaaS context

SaaS merchants use coupon attribution when buyers may skip the affiliate link but still remember a partner code during checkout. It is useful with Stripe coupons, but needs rules for conflicts with click attribution.

Operator note

Make coupon ownership unique per campaign, log when a coupon overrides click attribution and prevent partners from claiming codes not assigned to them.

Turn the definition into operating rules

RefCampaign helps recurring SaaS teams translate attribution, refunds and payout policies into a partner program that can be audited.
