Server-side tracking

Tracking that records conversions from backend events rather than only from browser scripts or pixels.

Definition

Server-side tracking sends conversion and revenue data from the application backend, checkout system or billing provider to the affiliate platform. It reduces dependence on client-side cookies, ad blockers and browser privacy limits.

B2B SaaS context

B2B SaaS funnels often include trials, product-led activation and delayed payment. Server-side tracking can connect those lifecycle events to the original referral after the browser session is gone.

Operator note

Use deterministic IDs and signed server calls, document which backend events are commissionable, and keep browser clicks as attribution inputs rather than the only source of truth.

Turn the definition into operating rules

RefCampaign helps recurring SaaS teams translate attribution, refunds and payout policies into a partner program that can be audited.
