Subscription expansion

Additional recurring revenue from an affiliate-sourced customer after the initial conversion.

Definition

Subscription expansion includes upgrades, seat increases, add-ons or plan changes that raise recurring revenue after the original purchase. A program may include or exclude this expansion from affiliate commission.

B2B SaaS context

Expansion can be a major part of SaaS lifetime value, especially for team-based products. Rewarding it can motivate high-quality partners, but may overpay when expansion is driven entirely by customer success.

Operator note

Decide whether expansion is commissionable, for how long, and whether the partner must remain active or involved to share in the upside.
