If you sell a SaaS product and invoice through Stripe, the affiliate software shortlist is shorter than most review sites suggest. The big "best affiliate software" lists rank forty tools and bury the one thing that decides everything for a subscription business: how cleanly the platform reads your Stripe revenue.

We build RefCampaign, so read this as a comparison written by an interested party. The only honest way to handle that is to judge every tool on the same criteria, put ours in the same table, and source every price. Where RefCampaign is the weaker option, this article says so.

This is for teams that already know they want an affiliate channel and are choosing between platforms. If you are still deciding whether affiliation fits your model at all, start with the SaaS affiliate setup guide instead.

What actually separates these tools

Most of these platforms track clicks, store affiliates, and calculate commissions. On paper they look similar. The differences that cost you money or time show up in five places.

Stripe reading. A Stripe-native tool maps commissions to real subscription events: the first paid invoice, renewals, upgrades, downgrades, refunds. A generic affiliate tool that bolts Stripe on afterwards tends to track the signup and then drift on everything that happens later. For recurring revenue, the "everything that happens later" is the whole point. The Stripe affiliate tracking guide covers what clean attribution looks like in practice.

Recurring commission handling. Check how the tool treats a customer who upgrades in month three or cancels in month two. Some deduct the commission on refund automatically. Some leave it to you. This is rarely on the pricing page and almost always on the help center.

Payout method. Stripe coupons, PayPal, Wise, manual bank transfer. If you pay affiliates outside the US or the eurozone, payout coverage matters more than the dashboard.

Pricing model and the revenue cap. This is the quiet cost driver. Most entry plans cap the affiliate-driven revenue they will track. Cross the cap and you move up a tier whether or not you wanted to. Two tools at "$49/month" are not the same price if one caps at $5,000 of affiliate revenue and the other at $7,500.

Data region. If your buyers are European or your own compliance posture is GDPR-first, where the affiliate data lives is a real question, not a checkbox.

A short note on each tool

Rewardful is the recognized Stripe-first option. Its help center describes it as software for subscription businesses on Stripe, with click tracking, referred-customer tracking, invoice-based commissions, and adjustments for upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, and trials. After Starter at $49/month it moves to Growth at $99/month (up to $15,000/month of affiliate revenue), then enterprise pricing above that. If you want the safe default and your numbers fit the tiers, it is a reasonable pick.

Tolt is positioned for SaaS startups and keeps the setup deliberately simple. Basic is $69/month up to $10,000/month, Growth is $99/month up to $20,000/month, and Pro is $199/month up to $50,000/month, each with a 14-day trial. It supports Stripe or Paddle, stops commission calculation on cancellation, and deducts the commission when a payment is refunded.

FirstPromoter is built for SaaS and subscription businesses and leans toward configuration. Starter is $49/month up to $5,000/month, Business is $99/month up to $15,000/month, and Enterprise starts at $149/month above that. It handles webhooks, an API, Stripe coupons, and PayPal or Wise payouts, which helps if you want payout automation and tighter control over commission rules.

Tapfiliate is the broadest of the five. It carries many pre-built integrations, with Stripe among them, plus recurring commissions and coupon tracking. Launch is $89/month and Scale is $179/month, with limits on programs, affiliates, and clicks per plan. If your stack is mixed e-commerce and SaaS, or you track conversions outside Stripe, the integration catalog is the reason to look at it.

Where RefCampaign fits, and where it does not

RefCampaign is Stripe-native and EU-hosted, with entry pricing from 39 EUR/month and founder-led support in French and English. If your customers are European and your affiliate program lives next to the Stripe subscriptions you already run, those are concrete reasons to try it. The Stripe-native affiliate software page covers the implementation detail.

The honest limits: RefCampaign is younger than Rewardful or Tapfiliate, so it has a shorter public track record and a smaller integration catalog. If you need to track conversions across a dozen non-Stripe sources, a broad tool like Tapfiliate covers more ground today. If you want the most-reviewed Stripe option with the longest history, that is Rewardful. We would rather you pick the right tool than the loudest one.

What RefCampaign optimizes for is narrow on purpose: Stripe subscriptions, European data hosting, a low entry price, and direct support. That is the trade.

How to choose for your case

Match the tool to your real constraints rather than the feature grid.

If you bill on Stripe, sell to European buyers, and care about data region and a low monthly floor, RefCampaign is built for exactly that shape. Compare it directly against Rewardful, Tolt, FirstPromoter, or Tapfiliate before deciding.

If you want the longest Stripe track record and the tier caps fit your revenue, Rewardful is a safe default. If you need broad integrations beyond Stripe, look at Tapfiliate. If payout automation and deep configuration matter most, FirstPromoter earns the look. Whatever you choose, run the math on the revenue cap, not just the headline price, because the cap is where the real cost lives.

Before you sign anywhere, it also helps to know what good looks like. The SaaS affiliate program benchmarks give you the commission rates, conversion rates, and payout timelines to expect, so you can judge a tool against outcomes instead of marketing copy.
